Cineplex, owners of the Playdium brand announced plans to convert the Cineplex Odeon Orion Gate Cinemas into a Playdium gaming and entertainment complex. Construction is scheduled to begin in September and completed by mid-2019.

The Odeon Orion Gate Cinemas, a 45,000 square-foot facility with 10 auditoriums, is located near Highway 410 and Steeles Avenue East in Brampton.

The plan is to convert one auditorium into the first Playdium or The Rec Room (another attraction brand owned by Cineplex) with an auditorium.

The theatre will close once construction begins in September. Lange said theatre staff have been notified and will be transferred to neighbouring Cineplex theatres such as SilverCity Brampton, Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga or Cineplex Cinemas Courtney Park in Mississauga.

The new Playdium complex is expected to contribute to jobs with an estimated 100 people required when the place opens in 2019.
