New York, Sept. 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in a round table on ‘Media, Technology and communications- Growth Story for India’ here today, stated that New Delhi is keeping up with the technology driven era by being a society that is equally technology driven.
“This is a technology driven era. We are a technology driven society. PM @narendramodi addresses media sector CEO’s,” tweeted Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Vikas Swarup.
The meeting was hosted by 21st Century Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch and his son James Murdoch, the company’s CEO, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel here.
This meeting has been conducted with the idea of leveraging India’s ‘growth story’ with the media and through modern communication technologies.
Star India CEO Uday Shankar was also present at the meeting along with the CEOs of Sony, Discovery, Time Warner, A&E and VICE Media among others.
“40 percent of the world’s entertainment industry in one room!” Swarup said in another tweet.
Prime Minister Modi also said that India is committed to protecting the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), which is ‘essential to fostering creativity’.
The United Stated had earlier expressed their concern over India’s stand on IPR.
More than one-third of the US economy is based on IP-intensive industries and Washington had urged India to create a regime that will protect the IPR of its enterprises that invest in India, especially the pharmaceutical companies.
Michael Bloomberg and Marillyn A. Hewson, Chairman, President and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation, will call on Prime Minister Modi later in the day.
Mike Burke, Chairman and CEO of Aecom, will call on the Prime Minister next.
The Prime Minister’s evening concludes with a dinner with some of the top Fortune 500 CEOs, which will be a major push for his ‘Make In India’ programme. (ANI)
