New Delhi, Dec. 26 (ANI): The Janata Dal (United) on Saturday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unexpected Lahore visit and said that the internal matters of the nation won’t be solved by the latter’s foreign tours.
“The party is failing on internal matters. Inflation is there and there is allegation of corruption as well. So, these things also need to be considered. The internal matters of the nation won’t be solved by taking tours of foreign countries,” JD (U) leader Ali Anwar told ANI.
“Relation with Pakistan is very critical. The democracy there is not deep-rooted like ours. The army also intervenes, but discussion should take place. It should be welcomed. One cannot change the neighbour. Prime Minister Modi could not achieve much wherever he went, so he thought of maintaining peaceful relations with neighbouring countries,” he added.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Congress Party said that Prime Minister Modi never cares for the poor and the farmers of the nation, adding that he always follows the advice of the businessmen.
“Prime Minister has never cared for the poor and the farmers. He always goes with the advice of the big businessmen and industrialists,” Congress leader Pramod Tiwari told ANI.
The reaction of the Opposition comes after Prime Minister Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan yesterday.
He landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, where he was received by his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
On his way back to New Delhi from Moscow, Prime ministers Modi and Sharif met at the latter’s residence Raiwind Palace, the ancestral home of the Sharifs, in Lahore, where he also discussed Indo-Pak relations with him.
“Beyond the noise, a personal connect. The Prime Ministers discuss #IndiaPakistan relations in Raiwind,” tweeted Vikas Swarup, Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs. (ANI)
