PM Modi pitches ‘Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat’ honouring Sardar Patel

New Delhi, Oct. 31 (ANI): Honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s immeasurable efforts in uniting the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pitched the ‘Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat’ programme which will be an effort by states to recognise and learn about other each other’s culture and language.

Addressing the nation on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel which has been dubbed as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’, Prime Minister Modi remembered the ‘Iron Man’s’ struggle in unifying the nation under the British rule.

“Every decision Sardar saab made was with a certain plan for the nation. His contribution to the nation is priceless. He did not want the nation to go back to being scattered after he left, that is why during his rule, and he fought every divisive element in the nation and united India in a short time,” Prime Minister Modi said.

He added that it was Sardar Patel who began the ‘Clean India’ campaign which was lauded by Mahatma Gandhi and he also fought for women’s reservation in India among his other priceless contributions for the nation.

The Prime Minister reminded the nation that the legacy left behind by great leaders like Sardar Patel and Indira Gandhi must be passed to the future generations.

“We must remember that the lives lead by great people inspires generations. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s ideology and heritage cannot be forgotten. It is the responsibility of every generation to remember and learn from those who sacrificed their lives for the country,” the Prime Minister said.

Honouring Sardal Patel immense contribution in unifying the nation, the Prime Minister pitched the ‘Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat’ programme, where every year two states will connect and learn about each other’s language and culture.

“In 2016 every school in Haryana will have Tamil as a language. Every child will be taught Tamil songs, Tamil films will be screened. And the vice versa will be done in Tamil Nadu. Every year from now on for a whole year, both the states will learn from each other,” the Prime Minister said.

Later, he flagged off the ‘Run For Unity’ event at Rajpath. The day is being celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day).

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi offered floral tributes at the Sardar Patel statue on Parliament Street along with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu.

Meanwhile, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi and former prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid tribute to Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary at Shakti Sthal. (ANI)
