PM’s ‘attractive, solacing’ speech in Bareilly nothing but ‘lip service’: NCP

New Delhi, Feb. 28 (ANI): The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Sunday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘attractive’ and ‘solacing’ speech in Bareilly, saying it was just a ‘lip service’ which was far away from reality.

NCP leader Majeed Memon said the Prime Minister’s tall claims do not appear to be true on ground and added that the condition of farmers had gone from bad to worse in the last two years.

“The speech of the honourable Prime Minister is very attractive and sounds very sweet and solacing. But they are not beyond the speech. They are only words and it is just lip service. The Prime Minister has been saying this, what he said today, for the past two years,” Memon told ANI.

“What has happened? The farmers are driven to starvation and are committing suicide. It was shocking to learn that 89 farmers committed suicide in Marathwada alone. It is terribly disgusting. What is the government doing? The Maharashtra Government and the Union Government both are ruled by you (BJP),” he added.

Memon further advised Prime Minister Modi to speak the truth and refrain from mere preaching as it was an easy task.

“It is very good to speak rosy words but what is the truth. The truth is that we have not moved an inch and in the last two years, things have gone from bad to worse and this is what their ‘Achhe Din’ is. So, I am afraid that the Prime Minister’s tall claims do not appear to be true on ground,” he said.

Pitching for converting farmers’ challenges into opportunities, Prime Minister Modi today urged all states to give priority to implementation of the ‘roadmap’ for boosting the agriculture sector with a target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.

Addressing a farmers’ rally in Bareilly, he said the farmers are the pride of the nation.

He also requested all state governments to give utmost priority to farmers’ issues.

“I appeal not only to the Uttar Pradesh Government but to all the state governments to give utmost priority to addressing farmers’ issues and issues related to agriculture,” said Prime Minister Modi.

“I wish to double the income of farmers by 2022 when India will celebrate 75 years of its Independence,” he added.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the farmers today want at least one member of their family to take up job because they know that the family cannot just sustain on agriculture. (ANI)
