Poonam Litt was stabbed to death in February 2009

Mandeep Punia the sister-in-law of Poonam Litt begged the court for mercy reminding everyone she was a mother of two children. Mandeep stabbed the pregnant mother to death
in a fit of rage, her husband Skinder hid the body at a farm in Caledon but she hid Poonam’s fate for three years until the remains were discovered in 2012.

Last month Mandeep, 39, was convicted of manslaughter and her husband Skinder, 46, was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact.

Skinder received a stiff 7-year sentence, but having already spent time in pre-trial custody, has only 11 months to serve.

Pending completion of a pre-trial report, which will be discussed at a continuation of Mandeep’s sentencing hearing on July 11, she will be sentenced on Aug. 2. – CINEWS
