President Mukherjee condoles passing away of A.C. Jose

New Delhi, Jan. 23 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of senior Congress leader and former Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly A.C. Jose and recalled his contributions to the society.

In a condolence message to his wife, Prof. Leelamma Jose, the President said that the former Member of Parliament was a distinguished personality who was always in touch with the grassroots of society.

“I am sad to learn about the passing away of Shri A.C. Jose. Shri Jose was an esteemed colleague and a dear friend for long years,” he said.

“Shri Jose served the nation in various capacities. Elected as Member of Parliamentfrom Kerala in 1996, 1998 and 1999 and having served as Member and Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Shri Jose made important contributions towards the welfare of the people of India, especially the State of Kerala,” he added.

President Mukherjee said that A.C. Jose was a distinguished Parliamentarian, a committed Congressman and a patriotic leader.

“Beginning his public life as a student leader, he soon became acclaimed as an intellectual amongst political leaders. He made his mark as a trade union leader, lawyer, scholar, columnist and editor, heading the Veekshanam newspaper with drive and vision till his last days. In his death, the nation has lost a distinguished personality who was always in touch with the grassroots of society,” he said.

“I pray to the Almighty to give your family and you the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to all members of your family,” he added.

Jose died at a private hospital here today after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 79-years-old.

Jose was taken to the hospital after he suffered chest pain early in the morning. He died due to heart attack. (ANI)
