Protection of women is our first priority, says Bassi

New Delhi, Sept. 14 (ANI): Delhi’s Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Monday said that women safety was the first priority of his force, and added that with the new guidelines they have adopted, a safer environment for women would be provided.

“Women safety is our first priority and we believe that we would be able to make Delhi safe for women,” Bassi told ANI.

“I have been seen that these incidents mostly occur in private places. Within family and friends. So, keeping all this in mind, Delhi Police have started a few guidelines and an operation in which police will go to each colony and will talk to the people about this,” he added.

“We would also like to request women NGOs to actually help the police, rather than creating hurdles,” Bassi said.

A class 11 student was brutalised in Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on September 13. The girl had gone for morning walk when two men allegedly abducted and gangraped her.

In the evening, the neighbours caught the accused red handed. They were beaten, tonsured and handed over to the police.

According to reports, when the girl didn’t return home, her parents along with people from neighbourhood started searching for her. When they were looking for some clue about the girl, they found something suspicious in a house. The neighbours broke open the door and found the girl with the two accused. (ANI)
