Punjab hospitals to maintain patients’ feedback

Chandigarh, July 16 (IANS) The Punjab government has proposed a ‘Patient Feedback Form’ in all government hospitals to enable patients to give feedback on the treatment received and their satisfaction level, a senior officer said on Thursday.

Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Vini Mahajan has directed all civil surgeons to ensure that the patient feedback scheme is implemented in government hospitals properly.

Mahajan said a ‘Patient Satisfaction Survey’ was being developed through the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

“Based on the questionnaire developed by PGIMER, Chandigarh, this feedback format shall be developed, which would emphasise on key service delivery areas in the health institutions. A mechanism to install feedback boxes is also being discussed and will be finalised soon,” she said.

Mahajan said the move was aimed at putting in place more accountability and better behaviour by the staff deputed in hospitals and providing better health care facilities to the patients.

“On the basis of the feedback, the government shall identify the areas and services that need further improvement. A direct feedback from the patients shall also help the department to analyse the specific and general problems being faced by patients and thereafter a strategy can be devised to provide effective solutions to such problems,” she pointed out.

She said the idea of the whole exercise was to build confidence of patients visiting public health institutions.
