Purab Kohli: Cinema has turned into a three-day business

Purab  says that film depends a lot on a strong  opening now while TV and Internet are the media where content rules. Calling film excessively subject to opening weekends, Purab Kohli says that the medium is presently about the experience and TV and online are the spots where creators are currently focussing on the content. 

Discussing how the industry of silver screen has changed throughout the years, Purab says, Cinema has become a three-day business. That’s why the Internet and television have become the places for great content.”

Purab has been shooting for “Sense8” , a show coordinated by the Wachowskis, who have made movies like ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Pace Racer’ . The on-screen character will likewise be found in ‘Prisoners of War (PoW)’, the Indian redo of ‘Homeland’, being made by Nikhil Advani . Explaining in the matter of why enormous producers are wandering into TV, he says, “We’re giving the entire first season of PoW even before the first episode is being telecast. Doesn’t that show the confidence we have in the show, rather than depending on an opening? Unlike most movies, television shows cannot survive without good content and strong word-of-mouth. No amount of promotion will bring a viewer back to a show.”

Purab includes that silver screen has turned out to be more about the experience than the content  these days. “. “Just take a look at how many superhero films are being made in the West. These films are meant to be watched in theatres alone. It needs to be an experience. If we’re giving them anything lesser, exhibitors say they’d much rather show IPL games,” he says. – CINEWS
