Srinagar, July 4 (ANI): Railway officials on Saturday confirmed that the railway link from Banihal to Katra, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, would be completed by the year 2020.
Speaking at a press conference here, A.K.Puthaia, General Manager, Northern Railways said that the railway track from Jammu to Katra has been
completed and the 110 kilometers link from Katra to Banihal is the final portion that will be connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
“During this project, 85 percent of work is only tunnel work and rest of the other work is related with bridges and we have made all the arrangements aimed to fulfill this project on time,” he said.
Puthaia added that more coaches would be added to the trains to address the increasing rush of passengers.
“We can add more trains or even coaches after we get the approval of the board. At present the platform length at the railway stations here is of eight coaches and adding extra coaches will cause inconvenience to the passengers,” he said. (ANI)
