Ram Janmabhoomi row: Congress pulls up ‘communal’ BJP

New Delhi, Jan. 8 (ANI): Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Friday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of raking up the Ram Janmabhoomi issue keeping in mind the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls and called for unity among the secular forces to counter the same.

“This is very dangerous. I am worried. They will do something communal before the 2017 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. This is the method of BJP. We should be wary of it. All secular forces must unite against it,” Aiyar told ANI.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had earlier lashed out at those opposing a seminar on Ram Janmabhoomi in the Delhi University campus.

The two-day seminar titled “Shri Ram Janma Bhoomi Temple: Emerging Scenario” is scheduled to begin on January 9 at the Delhi University’s Arts Faculty.

The event is being organised by Arundhati Vashishtha Anusandhan Peeth (AVAP), which is a research organisation founded by late VHP leader Ashok Singhal.

The university had drawn flak from students and teachers over the event earlier.

The university, while defending itself, had reportedly said that it has nothing to do with the subject of the seminar, adding that the venue for the event was available to outsiders for hiring. (ANI)
