Kolkata, July 21 (ANI): Asserting that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) does not fear the ‘riot-ridden, corrupt’ BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that her party would alone contest the 2016 state assembly polls without bowing to the tyranny of the ruling dispensation at the Centre.
Banerjee, who was speaking at the Martyrs’ Day rally, highlighted the achievements of the TMC Government in the state in the last four and a half years.
The TMC supremo, while attacking the various schemes undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government in its one year in office, emphasized on the Kanyashree scheme for girl students, monthly stipends to Imams, fair price shop for medicine for the poor and restoration of normal life in Darjeeling hills, which was hit by Gorkhaland agitations.
“While a lot of propaganda is being done by loyalists of ‘Swachh Bharat’, the actual performers are people of ‘Achha Bengal’. Take for example, the campaign ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. While the budget allocated for the implementation of the campaign is 100 crores, the budget for propaganda alone is 50 crores. So, in actuality, how much remains? Just 50 crores. This is not ‘Beti Bachao’ but ‘Bechi Hatao’ campaign,” Banerjee told the media here.
“Trinamool Congress knows how to fight and in the days to come will show everyone that it is the only party that works for ‘real’ development. We have never bowed our heads to the tyranny of the CPI (M) and will not to the Central Government either. We fear not the riot-ridden, corrupt party and we have nothing to learn from them. We will stand by the farmers, the youth, the students, the mothers and fight for them. We will fight alone but will fight with our heads held high. This is our promise ahead of the 2016 assembly elections,” she added. (ANI)
