Rape case against Amitabh Thakur registered in Jan, clarifies SP

New Delhi, July 13 (ANI): The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday said that senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur did not disclose the fact that the rape case filed against him was registered in January 2015, adding that the Uttar Pradesh Government had acted fairly on this issue.

Amitabh Thakur has been trying to portray that this is a fight between the government and an honest IPS officer. Rather I would say that government has acted very fairly and the statement made by Amitabh Thakur that a rape case against him was instituted when he filed a complaint against Mulayam Singh Yadav, he did not disclose the fact that this complaint was filed against him in January 2015,” SP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told ANI.

“State government, acting responsibly, did not act immediately to register an FIR, rather looked at the content of the complaint and ensured that there is prima-facia material to register an FIR,” he added.

A rape case was lodged against the IPS officer in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar police station a day after he released an audio in which the Samajwadi Party chief was purportedly threatening him.

The IPS officer’s wife Nutan, who is an RTI activist, has also been accused of taking part in the conspiracy.

The woman had lodged a similar case against the IPS officer on December 31, 2014. But then the case had not been registered against him. (ANI)
