Real Madrid train for Roma clash without Benzema

Madrid, March 6 (IANS) Real Madrid trained on Sunday with a full football squad except for French forward Karim Benzema in preparation for the second leg of the European Champions League’s knockout stage against Roma next Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

German midfielder Toni Kroos and the Croatian Luka Modric returned to training under the command of French head coach Zinedine Zidane and both are ready to play, reports Efe.

The Los Blancos’s thrashing 7-1 La Liga victory against Celta de Vigo on Saturday has boosted the team’s morale ahead of the Champions League tie.

Although Real Madrid defeated Roma 2-0 in the first leg in Rome, the Merengues will seriously seek to advance in the Champions League, after coming to the conclusion that it is the only competition they can possibly win this season.

Brazilian Marcelo and Welshman Gareth Bale trained after their recovery and participation against Celta Vigo, so both players may start against Roma.

Real Madrid are currently third in La Liga with 60 points and nine points behind leaders Barcelona.
