Brad Pitt’s affair with Allied co-star Marion Cotillard is the cause of his split with Angelina Jolie, and that Jolie hired a private investigator to trail them, but sources told a US magazine that the private investigation part simply isn’t true.
As for Pitt’s indiscretion? That might just be true, because though the source insists that “Marion is not the reason for the divorce,” the cheating scandal “was the final straw” for Jolie.
In case anyone was wondering which film Brad Pitt was making when he allegedly hooked up with Marion Cotillard, here it is. Pitt and Cotillard co-star in Allied, a World War II thriller that brings together intelligence officer (Pitt) and French Resistance fighter (Cotillard) in North Africa in 1942.
Rumours of an affair have followed Pitt and Cotillard since they started filming in London, and meida reports that Pitt’s estranged wife, Angelina Jolie hired a private investigator to follow Pitt.
In fact, it was “the last straw” for Jolie, who filed for divorce on September 19th.
According to sources close to Cotillard, however, these are just rumours, and hold no truth.
Cotillard has been in a relationship with actor/director Guillaume Canet since 2007. The couple has a five-year-old son together. “Marion and Guillaume are blissfully happy, and these kind of claims are not what Marion wants to be hearing,” a source told UK paper. “Claims that she’s cheating on Guillaume with Brad will leave her absolutely devastated. This doesn’t sound like her at all.”
Back in August, Allied producer Graham King said that leading stars were definitely up to the task of making such an action-packed movie. “Brad and Marion immediately had the utmost respect for each other, so once they delved into their characters, their chemistry was electric,” King said.
“It was crucial for Brad and Marion to not only begin rehearsing together before the shoot, but they also spent a lot of time developing their characters. By the time we got to set, it was really amazing to see these characters already feel lived in and real.”
Neither Jolie nor Pitt have given a reason for their split, other than what has been listed on court documents.
