Many area residents are now worried after news broke of another armed robbery at Heart Lake Town Centre in Brampton. Peel police are currently searching for a suspect following the robbery that happened on the night of Saturday, September 1.
Police said dispatchers received the call at 9:14 p.m. and attended the plaza on Sandalwood Parkway East, where investigators said a man wearing dark clothing made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
It is unknown whether the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing a gun, but no one was injured in the incident.
This was the second armed robbery at the plaza in a little over two weeks, after a lone male armed with a gun robbed an undisclosed business there on August 15.
Given that the chances of shoppers being caught up in an armed robbery or some such situation anywhere means that everyone should be prepared to deal with such a thing happening.
Here are a few tips just in case:
• Don’t try to fight. Try to escape undetected if you can. Just remember: They’re probably just there to get money.
• Look for hiding places like a bathroom or even a freezer. “Once you’re in a safe hiding place, dial 911.
• If the gunman has you cornered, comply and hand over anything he wants.
• If all else fails… If you think you have no other choice and you’re about to be killed, make a diversion and escape.
Another good tip: Memorize as many details as possible about the suspect – what he’s wearing, how tall he is, what kind of car he’s driving. It could help police catch him before he strikes again.
