Srinagar, Sep 25 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam said on Tuesday that the resignations by special police officers (SPOs) was a negligible trend and restricted to south Kashmir.
“The state has over 30,000 SPOs and the recent resignations by a couple of them restricted to south Kashmir areas are negligible compared to the total number of SPOs doing their duties,” he told the media here.
He said all SPOs had been instructed about their personal safety while the government was in the process of enhancing their salaries.
“We know that the honorarium of SPOs was enhanced from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per month some time back.
“The honorarium will be hiked substantially, but I do not want to give out any figures as it will be decided by the State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by the Governor,” he said.
The recent abduction and killing of three policemen in Shopian district created panic among a section of SPOs, some of whom took to social media to announce their resignations.
