Akshay Kumar has displayed his star power once more by way of his latest film Rustom’s box office earnings. The film, made at a budget of Rs 50 crore, earned as much in three days and is likely to increase its revenue Monday, which is the Independence Day holiday in India.
Partly based on Nanavati murder case, Rustom released on August 12 had positive reviews and evaded the pre-release jitters of a clash with the epic juggernaut Mohenjo Daro, starring Hrithik Roshan.
The Friday box office collection was Rs 14.11 crore and it got better from there.
A trade analyst Tweeted, “#Rustom had a FABULOUS Sun… Crosses ₹ 50 cr mark.. Mon [Independence Day holiday] will boost the biz further… SMASH HIT…” He also gave out the numbers, “#Rustom Fri 14.11 cr, Sat 16.43 cr, Sun 19.88 cr. Total: ₹ 50.42 cr. India biz. TERRIFIC!”
On Monday, the film is expected to earn between Rs 18-20 crore.
The movie found its place among the top five openers of 2016 and secured the fourth position in the list. In fact, Akshay stars in three — Rustom, Airlift and Housefull 3 .
Rustom has a strong hold on the international market too. It collected $1.24 million [Rs 8.30 cr] overseas.
Rustom is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and also stars Ileana D’Cruz, Arjan Bajwa and Esha Gupta.
Akshay plays a naval commander in the film who is accused of killing his wife’s lover. It was released over 2,317 screens across cities in India and 550-plus overseas. – CINEWS
