Sooraj Barjatya directorial 1989 iconic love story ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is the fresh and young pairing of the then newcomers Salman Khan and Bhagyashree.

The film was also one of the top-grossing films in the 1980s.

According to reports, Salaman Khan was initially rejected for the lead role during the first audition as Sooraj thought Salman looked small.

Before the hunk eventually bagged the role of Prem, a slew of new actors were considered and auditioned for the role.

Vindoo Dara Singh, Deepak Tijori and Piyush Mishra were some of the names that were considered for the role before Salman made it his own.

The film is counted among the top 10 successful films of Indian cinema.

At the 35th Filmfare Awards, the film won six awards, including Best Film.
