Sam Smith wins The Best Original Song Oscar

New Delhi, Feb 29 (ANI): Sam Smith has once again followed in Adele’s footsteps, winning the Best Song Oscar, alongside Jimmy Napes, for ‘Writing’s On The Wall.’

In his acceptance speech, the 23-year-old singer said “I actually can’t breathe right now!”

Quickly turning serious to mention an Ian McKellen quote about how no openly gay man has ever won an Oscar, he further said “If this is the case, and even if it isn’t, I dedicate this to the LGBT community around the world. I stand here tonight as a proud gay man.”

Competing with the ‘Spectre’ song were ‘Earned It’ from ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ ‘Manta Ray’ from ‘Racing Extinction,’ ‘Simple Song #3’ from ‘Youth’ and ‘Til It Happens to You’ from ‘The Hunting Ground.’

The 88th Academy Awards took place on February 28 at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. (ANI)
