Puri, Oct. 15 (ANI): Renowned sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik on Thursday made a five-foot sand sculpture of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to commemorate his 84th birth anniversary off the Puri coast.
The “people’s President” passed away on July 27 of cardiac arrest at the age of 83 in Shillong.
Kalam was the 11th President of India, who served from 2002 to 2007 , and was one of the country’s eminent scientists.
Kalam had also received honorary doctorates from 30 universities and institutions.
Known as India’s ‘Missile Man’, Kalam worked as a scientist and science administrator for four decades, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) before he became the President.
He was intimately involved in the country’s civilian space program and military missile development efforts. (ANI)
