Sandip Soparrkar was given the sixteenth National Excellence Award by the government . “I feel humbled to get this honour, especially because this is the first time a Western dancer has received it. After the National Achievement Award in 2014, this is my second government-recognised award,” he says excitedly.
Politico Mani Shankar Aiyar gave the Ashok Stambh trophy, a bronze award and a testament to the dancer- choreographer. “He has awesome enthusiasm for workmanship, and let me know I’ve done a good job ” reviews Sandip.
He includes that this achievement has carried with it an great responsibilty. “Our country has always been supportive of traditional dance, and in the past few years, we have opened up to different forms as well. We are not only welcoming international dancers, but have also been showcasing our art in foreign countries. Today, ballroom dancing has become popular too. An award of this stature puts a lot of responsibility on me to make sure I keep the authenticity of international dances alive in the country,” he signs off.- CINEWS
