Ahmedabad, Sept. 11 (ANI): The Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad is set to undergo a dramatic transformation that will feature a new stadium with a greater capacity in two years time. The demolishing work is expected to be completed within four months.
The stadium has hosted 12 Tests and 24 ODIs between 1983 and 2014. The arena saw Sunil Gavaskar become the first-ever batsman to score 10000 Test runs in 1987.
Kapil Dev broke Richard Hadlee’s then world record of 431 Test wickets in 1994 at the stadium, which also hosted India’s quarter-final win over Australia during the 2011 World Cup.
According to reports, the new stadium is expected to increase number of air-conditioned boxes and parking facilities. (ANI)
