Not filing election expenses by the March 27th deadline has cost Harkirat Singh of Peel Region representing Brampton’s Wards 9 and 10 dearly.
Singh’s profile and photo have been taken down from the Peel District School Board’s website and the page states: “For trustee inquiries please contact Chair Janet McDougald via Linda Jardine by phone at …”
The Board has confirmed Singh no longer has access to board emails or resources.
But Singh isn’t going quietly, he has confirmed that he will be taking legal recourse in a bid to regain his seat.
Apparently Singh did not make an application to the Ontario Court of Justice to extend his time for filing a financial statement. Because of that, Singh is not eligible to be elected or appointed to the position of a School Board Trustee, City or Regional Councillor or Mayor until after the next regular election in 2018.
According to Singh’s LinkedIn profile, he is “also a part-time instructor at Lambton College in Toronto.”
It states: “I currently teach post-graduate courses in the Marketing Management and Professional Sales program. Courses I’ve taught up to date include Selling, Business Intelligence and Sales Technology.”
Meanwhile Gurratan Singh (Brother of NDP MPP Jagmeet Singh) who ran for Regional Councillor for Brampton Wards 9/10 in this past election also failed to meet this filing deadline. Under the rules, he will not be permitted to run in the next City of Brampton Election in 2018. It is not clear what action he plans to take.
