Security stepped up in twin cities ahead of Pakistan Day

Islamabad, Mar. 21 (ANI): Ahead of the Pakistan Day celebrations on March 23, security has been stepped up in twin cities with the police launching search and combing operations.

Based on instructions from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Cellular services were suspended in parts of Islamabad on Monday for parade rehearsal.

The internet service providers (ISP) had already informed their customers that internet services will be shut down from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

The police have been searching hotels, guest houses, slums and other areas for security purposes, reports the Express Tribune.

The Federal Police had in March last year issued a statement claiming a terrorist attack targeting the Pakistan Day Parade had been foiled.

The parade was going to be held after a seven-year hiatus and there were speculations that the Chinese President would witness the event.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Police have asked the citizens to remain vigilant and reach out to the police with numbers issued by them.

For the smooth functional of the celebrations, traffic is also being diverted across the city. (ANI)
