Sedition charges to muzzle opposition’s voices: K.C. Tyagi

New Delhi, Feb. 28 (ANI): Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi on Sunday said the sedition charges filed against him for supporting those who allegedly raised anti-national slogans, reminded him of the Emergency, when it was used to muzzle opposition’s voice.

“It reminds me of emergency when such charges were imposed to muzzle Opposition voices. The day we will turn anti-nationals, there will be no nationalist in the country,” Tyagi told ANI.

Sedition charges have been filed against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Anand Sharma, CPI leader D. Raja, CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi for allegedly supporting those who allegedly raised ‘anti-national’ slogans.

The FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 124 A and 156(3) CRPC in Saroornagar Police Station of Cyberabad.

FIR has also been registered against Jawaharlal Nehru University students’ union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar and student Umar Khalid on the same charges.

The police had earlier interrogated four JNU students -Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and Ashutosh Kumar.

The students are facing sedition charges for allegedly raising ‘anti-national’ slogans at the JNU campus during an event to commemorate Afzal Guru’s third death anniversary on February 9. (ANI)
