This is an annual event that happens in locations across the country. In Mississauga it is being held on Feb. 24 at the Unitarian Congregation Church between 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at 84 South Service Rd. near Hurontario Street.
Mississauga environmental education organization Ecosource will host a Kids Korner. Children will be able to try “seed yoga”, match sizes and shapes of seeds with mature vegetables and fruits and make wildflower seed spheres.
The latter will allow children to scoop up handfuls of earth or clay and roll them in wildflower seeds and water to create a batter. Once it dries out it can be dug into a backyard corner to create a kind of wildflower bomb that can explode into colourful life once it gets enough rain.
Gardeners traditionally flock to this annual event, which amounts to the symbolic starter’s gun for the season. Not only do they buy seeds from long-standing vendors such as Urban Harvest and Mountain Grove, but they can also attend expert workshops.
