New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Domestic air passenger traffic rose 14.56 percent in September to 66.66 lakh from 58.19 lakh registered during the corresponding month of last year.
During August, the air passenger traffic had surged by 18.66 percent to 67.60 lakh.
Data furnished by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed that passenger traffic during the January-September period grew by 20.10 percent.
“Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-September 2015 were 590.21 lakh as against 491.44 lakh during the corresponding period of previous year, thereby registering a growth of 20.10 percent,” the DGCA said in its statistical analysis.
Earlier, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) had said that India’s domestic demand had soared owing to significant increases in service frequencies and improvements in economic growth.
Furthermore, the DGCA data showed that low cost carrier (LCC) SpiceJet had the highest passenger load factor during the month under review at 93 percent.
The LCC was followed by another budget carrier GoAir (79.8), IndiGo (79.4), Trujet (79), Air Costa (78.9), Jet Airways (77.90), Air India’s domestic operations (76.09), JetLite (74.9), Air Pegasus (73.2), AirAsia India (67.7) and Vistara (62.4).
At the same time, data on the on-time performance showed Vistara leading the industry with 94.2 percent punctuality at four major airports of Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
It was followed by IndiGo (91.2), Jet Airways and JetLite (87.9), SpiceJet (85.1) and Air India’s domestic operations (82.4) being on schedule.
Meanwhile, Air Pegasus had the highest numbers of cancellations at 20.50 percent followed by Trujet (3.95), Air India’s domestic operations (2.09), Air Costa (1.53), JetLite (0.58), AirAsia India (0.29), Jet Airways (0.28), SpiceJet (0.09), GoAir (0.05) and IndiGo (0.01).
“The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of September 2015 has been 0.6 percent,” the aviation regulator said.
According to the data, a total of 710 passenger related complaints had been received.
Air Pegasus had the highest complaints rate per 10,000 passengers in the month under review.
Air Pegasus’s share stood at (2.1). It was followed by Air India’s domestic operations (1.8), Jet Airways and JetLite (1.4), SpicJet (1.2), Trujet (1.1), GoAir and AirAsia India (0.09), Air Costa (0.8), IndiGo (0.6) and Vistara (0.1).
LCC IndiGo achieved the highest market share in the month under review at 36.5 percent followed by Jet Airways (19.2), Air India (15.9), SpiceJet (12.3), GoAir (8.7) and JetLite (2.8 percent).
AirAsia India had a market penetration of 1.90 percent, Vistara reported a market share of 1.5 percent, followed by Air Costa’s (0.9), Air Pegasus (0.2) and Trujet (0.3).
