Serena sets up quarterfinal clash with Sharapova at Australian Open

Melbourne, Jan. 24 (ANI): World number one Serena Williams produced a nearly flawless performance as she demolished Margarita Gasparyan to set up a quarterfinal showdown against old-rival Maria Sharapova at the Australian Open on Sunday.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Russia’s Gasparyan in a fourth round women’s singles contest that lasted just 55 minutes, reported.

The American tennis star boasts an astonishing 18-2 head-to-head record against Sharapova, who claimed her last victory against Serena at the 2004 Tour Championships in Los Angeles. (ANI)
