Gurgaon, Feb 17 (IANS) A woman block education officer (BEO) in Gurgaon has filed a police complaint of sexual harassment against an office superintendent at the district education office (DEO), police said on Wednesday.
Gurgaon BEO Capt. Indu Boken (retd) has alleged that Dinesh Goyal, office superintendent at the DEO, has been sexually harassing her for the last few months.
The former Short Service Commission (SSC) officer said in her complaint that when she complained about Goyal to district education officer Manoj Kaushik, instead of taking action, she (Kaushik) asked her (Boken) to remain silent.
Boken said she was posted in Gurgaon since June 2014 and her brigadier husband was posted in a field area.
Boken, 35, said in her complaint that Goyal, 42, first sent her an obscene message on July 25, 2015, and again on August 15.
She said she ignored the first message, but warned Goyal after the second message.
But Goyal started misbehaving with her in office and made obscene gestures on several occasions, she said.
Boken filed the complaint at the women police station in Sector 51.
A police officer told IANS that a case has been registered against Goyal on charges of sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Goyal is yet to be arrested.
Commenting on the allegation, Kaushik told IANS that Boken never complained to her (Kaushik) verbally or in writing.
Kaushik said she was herself surprised and disturbed.
“I would have taken strict action against the accused if the complaint was made to me,” she said.
Kaushik said she did not have any official information about a police case registered against Goyal.
