Nasik,(Maharashtra) Apr. 2 (ANI): Amid criticism following the detention of members of Bhumata Ranragini Brigade led by Trupti Desai, the Maharashtra Police on Saturday stated that the move was taken to prevent a possible stampede outside the Shani Shingnapur temple and ensure that the law and order situation remains under control.
“Tension was brewing here, which might have led to stampede and that is why we took her out from the temple. We had given a notice to Trupti Desai and Bhanu Dash Murkute under Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and had verbally told them that they shouldn’t create a law and order situation in Shani Shinghnapur temple,” Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh told ANI.
Responding to a poser over a possible scuffle with the women activists including Trupti Desai, Deshmukh said they have been taken for medical checkup.
“There are reports that she had been beaten, we have sent them for the medical checkup as the Shani Singhnapur hospital was not safe and we brought her to the Civil Hospital,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the activists led by Desai tried to enter the inner sanctum of the Shani Shingnapur temple but they were blocked by the belligerent locals.
This took place a day after the Bombay High Court upheld women’s right to go to all places of worship. (ANI)
