London, July 09 (ANI): Fourth seed Maria Sharapova will aim to bring an end to her 11-year winless streak against world number one Serena Williams when she will take on the latter in the Wimbledon semi-finals on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Russian defeated Williams in the final at SW19 in 2004 and managed to claim another victory that year, but she has failed to overcome the American since.
Sharapova, who trails 17-2 in her head-to-head record against Williams, said that it is always a new match, insisting that although she hasn’t had great success against the American, she would love to change that around, the BBC reported.
Sharapova said that although there are definitely no secrets between each other’s games, it would be an incredible moment for her to step out on Centre Court against Williams again.
“There’s no easy road to victory. You’re going to have your bumps. That’s the way I see it,” she added. (ANI)
