New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): A short duration validity passport has been issued to Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Geelani, who had applied for an Indian passport to go to Saudi Arabia to visit his ailing daughter, had stoked controversy by saying that he was “not an Indian citizen by birth”.
The passport row had fanned a political storm with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asking him to declare his nationality as Indian and apologise for his “anti-national” activities.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had, however, stated said that his ministry had no objection in giving a passport to the Hurriyat hardliner, provided all formalities are completed. (ANI)
