Adelaide (Australia), June 24 (ANI): Bizarre as it may sound, news of Australian woman being admitted to a hospital in Adelaide for four days to treat a nerve problem exacerbated by the skinny jeans that she wore, has turned to be true.
According to neurologists of the Royal Adelaide Hospital, who had this unique case published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, the 35-year-old in question collapsed after spending a long period squatting to empty cupboards while helping a family member move.
The slate.com web site reports that the woman noticed bilateral foot drop and foot numbness while walking home, which caused her to trip and fall.
She spent several hours lying on the ground before she was found.
On medical examination, neurologists found her lower legs were markedly oedematous bilaterally, worse on the right side, and her jeans could only be removed by cutting them off.
The doctors concluded in their report that the jeans caused what they termed compartment syndrome, which in turn, exacerbated the nerve problems that had been caused by squatting.
The lesson here — think twice before wearing pants. (ANI)
