Perth, Jan.12 (ANI): Skipper Steve Smith and George Bailey scored well-deserved centuries as Australia staged a brilliant fight back to claim a five-wicket win against India in the opening match of the five-match series here at the WACA cricket ground on Tuesday.
Smith smashed 11 boundaries and two sixes as he scored 149 runs in his side’s chase of 310.
He was well supported by Bailey, who smashed 112 off 120 balls and sealed victory for the hosts.
The duo notched up a 200 plus-run stand between them making it the first time that the game has seen two 200-run partnerships in an ODI.
For India, debutant Barinder Sran grabbed three wickets of openers Aaron Finch and David Warner and later towards the innings that of Smith.
Earlier, opting to bat first, India scored 309-3, with Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 171 run while Virat Kohli contributed significant 91 runs.
Smith was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant knock.
The two sides will now play the second ODI in Brisbane on Friday.(ANI)
