Johannesburg, Dec.18 (ANI): Sri Lankan authorities have initiated an investigation over a bid to persuade players of the national cricket team to under-perform during the Test series against West Indies in October.
Confirming the news, Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said they have initiated a police inquiry in addition to an anti-corruption probe by the country’s cricket board,Sport24 reported.
He revealed that wicketkeeper Kusal Perera and bowler Rangana Herath were approached by a man, who asked the duo to ensure a Sri Lankan batting collapse in a Test in Galle.
But instead of West Indies’ victory, Sri Lanka went on to win the first match by an innings and six runs and subsequently clinched the two-match series 2-0. (ANI)
