Sridevi, a superstar in Bollywood, is selective about the roles she plays on screen and this may be a reason for the tremendous success of her career.
Once, she said no to the American legend Steven Spielberg to play a small role in Jurassic Park in 1993. She politely refused the offer as she was at the peak of her career, and as she felt the role didn’t meet her stature.
She also has refused lot of other films in Bollywood. One was Darr opposite Shah Rukh Khan a few years later. She had told media then, “After Chandni and Lamhe, I feel Darr would have been an ordinary character for me. If I’m playing Shah Rukh Khan’s role, then of course, I would have loved to do it. The character Juhi played was new for her and so it was good for her. But for me, it was something I had done many times before.”
Sridevi started her career as a child artist and continued to act in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.
In Bollywood, she gained wide public attention with the movie Himmatwala (1983). She appeared in a string of commercially successful movies like Mawaali (1983), Tohfa (1984), Naya Kadam (1984), Masterji (1985), Maqsad (1985), Nazrana (1987), Mr. India (1987), Waqt Ki Awaz (1988), Chandni (1989). She also received critical acclaim for commercially successful movies like Sadma (1983), Nagina (1986), ChaalBaaz (1989), Lamhe (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Gumrah (1993), Laadla (1994), Judaai (1997). – CINEWS
