Steps being taken to ease congestion at Delhi domestic airport

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS) Airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has been asked to execute multiple steps at Delhi airport’s domestic terminal to ease congestion, parliament was told on Thursday.

Increase of manned entry gates from eight to 16, additional check-in counters and provision of self-check-in kiosks were some of the measures taken to smoothen operations, Minister of Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Addition of four more XBIS machines for faster security checks and deployment of additional manpower for queue management also were undertaken by DIAL to arrest congestion, Sharma said.

IGI Airport Terminal 1D came in for criticism recently for congestion and long queues.
