Stop being adamant, ask tainted ministers to resign: Congress tells BJP

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Holding the government responsible for parliamentary disruptions, Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury on Wednesday said the ruling BJP should not remain adamant on its stand and ask the tainted ministers to resigns for the smooth functioning of the Parliament.

Chowdhury reminded the BJP’s stand when it was in the opposition to justify the Congress’ demand.

“What is the new in that? Is the government not aware about the present scene? Their memory has become so bad that they don’t know what is going to happen. If they want the Houses to function, they should initiate the step which we had asked or continue with their will,” Chowdhury told ANI here.

“We have said that we are ready for debate but we have added a rider that give the resignation and we will let the House function,” she added.

The Lok Sabha Speaker had earlier warned that disciplinary action will be taken if the members display placards in the House.

Defying her warning, the opposition members trooped into the well displaying placards which called for the resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and her Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The opposition has also been demanding the resignation of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani over the educational qualification row.

Both the Houses of Parliament were today adjourned for the day after the opposition members continued with their protest. (ANI)
