Abuja, Nov 27 (IANS) A suicide bomber hit a Muslim procession in Dakasoye town of Nigeria’s northwestern state of Kano on Friday and casualties were feared, security sources told media.
The bomber blew himself up amid the crowd, after pretending to be a member of the Islamic sect which organised the procession, said a security source in Dakasoye town, located 20 km from Kano’s main city.
“It is too early to give a precise figure of casualties. It was a huge crowd”, added the source.
Boko Haram, which has waged a campaign of violence in Nigeria in an effort to establish an Islamic state, is believed to have carried out the attack.
The terror group has killed some 13,000 people and kidnapped hundreds, with surrounding countries such as Niger, Chad and Cameroon also affected.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has given a December deadline for the army to end the Boko Haram insurgency.
