Sumitra Mahajan hopes members observe parliamentary decorum

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Following uproarious scenes by the opposition parties on the controversy surrounding former IPL boss Lalit Modi and other issues, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday expressed hope that the members would observe parliamentary decorum.

“There are rules of procedure, which should be adhered to. Placards should not be shown. If you remember, once the Trinamool Congress had come with umbrellas to which I had firmly objected. I had said that it was not proper. And the party had accepted my saying. I am hopeful that this time, too, the House will accept,” Mahajan told the media here.

The Lok Sabha Speaker had earlier warned that disciplinary action will be taken if the members display placards in the House.

Defying her warning, the opposition members trooped into the well displaying placards which called for the resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and her Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The opposition has also been demanding the resignation of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani over the educational qualification row.

Both the Houses of Parliament were today adjourned for the day after the opposition members continued with their protest. (ANI)
