When Sushant Singh Rajput played the character of Indian cricket hero Mahindra Singh Dhoni in his biopic was he under pressure to portray the life of the real life iconic cricketer?.
The actor who physically resembles the cricketer says he was excited to play rather than being nervous because he had the opportunity to know the story from the legend himself. The Kai Po Che actor revealed that it was in 2007 he first met the Ranchi-born cricketer and his family. “I have enormous respect for him,” the 30-year-old actor added speaking at the launch of the trailer.
Reacting to the actor’s comments Dhoni said he was asking lot of questions from him about his life. “He used to ask a lot of questions. Initially I was okay but after 15 to 20 minutes, I was like, I am talking about only myself… I need a break now,” said the 35-year-old batsman-wicketkeeper.
When Dhoni was asked about his next step in life, he answered, “When I was growing up, there were only two options in my life. Play cricket and study. When at the age of 18, I got a job, there was security in the sense that even if cricket doesn’t happen, I have a respectable job in hand. Out of the many options available, I will have to see what is positive and negative and which role people will like me in. I will look into it later. Right now I am playing cricket and would like to focus on that.”
Earlier in the evening, Dhoni watched the trailer with reel life Dhoni, Sushant Singh Rajput. The cricketer was all praise for the actor and said he was the best person to play him on screen.
The biopic, directed by Neeraj Pandey, releases on September 30. – CINEWS
