Sushma discusses Nepal’s reconstruction efforts with Chinese counterpart

Kathmandu, June 25 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi here on Thursday and discussed how both countries could strengthen the coordination and cooperation on the reconstruction efforts in Nepal.

Sushma Swaraj met the Foreign Minister of China on the margins of the International Conference of the reconstruction of Nepal here in Kathmandu. The two leaders discussed how India and China could strengthen the coordination and cooperation on the reconstruction effort in Nepal,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

“There was also a very good discussion on Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s path breaking visit to China, where it was acknowledged that the visit had helped not only to strengthen government to government relationship, but has also contributed significantly to the people-to-people interaction between India and China,” he added.

The External Affairs Minister also thanked the Chinese leadership for opening the Nathu-La route for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.

“The External Affairs Minister also thanked the Chinese leadership for opening the Nathu-La route for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage which will now enable a large number of people to do this pilgrimage who were otherwise not able to do so,” he added.

Swaraj, who is presently in Nepal on a two-day visit, had yesterday called on Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and conveyed to him that India will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the quake-battered country in its massive reconstruction efforts and ensure ‘quickest’ recovery. (ANI)
