SYL water war: Haryana Govt. slams ‘opportunistic’ Kejriwal

New Delhi, Mar.18 (ANI): Taking potshots at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for siding with the Punjab Government with regard to the SYL canal issue, the Haryana Government on Friday called the AAP chief an opportunist and asked him to get a canal constructed for the national capital.

Haryana Irrigation Minister O.P. Dhankar told ANI that Haryana has always treated Delhi’s water needs with priority and added that Kejriwal instead of supporting the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government is favouring their opponents on the issue.

“Arvind Kejriwal in a letter has opposed SYL and has said that there is no need of SYL project. We provide water to Delhi. We make serious efforts to provide water to Delhi. Many a times we keep the interest of national capital first and supply it water,” Dhankar told ANI here.

“Kejriwal is a true opportunist, he did not think once about Delhi or Haryana. So, now I believe he is very capable he should get his own canal and provide water to the people,” he added.

In an attempt to prevent its neighbouring states from getting share from Punjab’s river waters, the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a bill against the construction of SYL canal, providing transfer of proprietary rights back to the land owners free of cost. (ANI)
