Harish Shankar, director of Mirapakay and Gabbar Singh, is all set to helm as well produce the yet-untitled Telugu remake of Akshay Kumar’s Special 26.
“Harish is currently busy with the pre-production work of his next film with Allu Arjun. After completing this film, he will start work on Special 26 remake, which he intends to direct as well as produce with his close friend Krishna,” a reliable source said.
Although it was rumoured that Ravi Teja would star in the remake, the source clarified that the cast and crew are yet to be finalised.
Inspired from 1987 Opera House heist where a group posing as Income Tax officers raided the jeweler, Special 26 also featured Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher and Jimmy Sheirgill.
Special 26, also known as Special Chabbis, stars Akshay Kumar in the lead protagonist role with Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Jimmy Shergill and Divya Dutta in supporting roles. Special 26 released on February 5, 2013 to widespread critical acclaim and was regarded as one of the best films of 2013. – CINEWS
