Tension in Rajouri varsity after scuffle between students

Jammu, April 18 (IANS) Police was deployed in the the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah (BGSB) University in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district following tension after a scuffle between two groups of students, said a police officer on Monday but stressed it was not a “communal clash”.

“There was a scuffle between some students inside the campus of BGSB University yesterday (Sunday) after which the authorities closed the university.

“There has been no tension between members of two communities and it is not a communal clash,” a senior police officer told IANS here, adding the “scuffle was between a local student belonging to Rajouri district and a non-local student belonging to the Kashmir Valley”.

Police has been deployed inside the campus to instill confidence among the students, he said, adding an FIR has been registered in the incident and investigation started.

Meanwhile, some non-local students claimed some of their vehicles parked inside the campus had been damaged by an unruly mob of local students supported by their sympathisers in the town.
