Things you can do this long weekend

Join the Caribana festivities

There is absolutely no excuse to stay indoors and waste a perfectly wonderful long weekend, especially when glorious sunshine is in the forecast. There are a whole lot of things you can depending on what appeals to you.

If you are looking for some awesome entertainment and great food, head into Toronto for the annual Caribana Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade on Saturday.

It is its 46th year, featuring events that celebrate the music, cuisine and arts of the Caribbean region. This event draws close to a million spectators, you can be one of them.

If you are a foodie, then you don’t want to miss the Food Truck Festival all weekend at Woodbine Park. It begins this evening at 5 PM and on Saturday and Sunday, it starts at 12 noon and goes on until 10 PM. It is free to enter, there is a large variety of food and plenty of entertainment for the whole family.

On Sunday if music is your thing and you are on the artsy side, then you want to be at the Island Soul fest at the Harbourfront Centre. This fest explores island traditions and cultural expression through music, film, dance and more. Visitors can expect live performances, authentic food and free admission.

On Sunday if you simply want to discover a new part of the city, head over to the Distillery District and wander about the Distillery District Sunday Market. It bills itself as a carefully curated weekly-market in the city. Sample or buy unique foods and crafts all locally sourced. Some of the goods include locally harvested honey, fresh made empanadas, and organic butter.

There are plenty of things you can do for free in the GTA. You can simply purchase a TTC Family Pass and explore city neighborhoods. Wander about Kensington Market, score some great deals in Chinatown and tuck in a sumptuous Chinese meal for a price that might surprise you.

If you want to have a picnic in the park, then head over to High Park in Toronto, or the Beaches, or Jack Darling Park in Mississauga or scores of great location all across the city.

Like we at Can-India believe, there is absolutely no reason to be home unless you are immobile or recuperating. Enjoy summer as it isn’t expected to last much longer. – CINEWS
