Three-day ‘Destination Northeast 2016’ kicks off in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 13, (ANI): The three-day ‘Destination Northeast 2016’, which began at the Pragati Maidan here on Friday, is attracting a number of visitors, both foreign and domestic.

Tourism, agriculture, food processing, skill development and entrepreneurship, IT, handloom and handicrafts, livelihood, micro-finance and start ups are the focus areas of the event.

Organised by the DoNER Ministry, Destination North East is enabling several central ministries to showcase northeast related initiatives. The festival is aimed attracting a combination of tourist and potential investors, besides bridging the gap between the rest of India and the North Eastern region.

Assam and Nagaland Governor P.B Acharya graced a cultural event on Friday that showcased the rich culture and folk dances of the North East. Acharya highlighted the North East for its natural resources and called for equality and stronger bonding.

Acharya said, “the North East region has been blessed by god with such a beautiful natural resources and organic food. However, it has been only one way traffic where youngsters from North East come here for further studies and jobs. People from all over India must visit the region more often in order to understand each other’s religion, culture so that there is national integrity, emotional integrity which is the need of the hour.”

Arvind Madhav Singh, Jt. Secretary DONER, said the main objective is to display the strengths potential and activities of the North East. Also we are trying to show the people about the rich and potent culture and traditions of the north eastern region.

We are happy that we are giving an opportunity to the residents of Delhi to see in reality who the North eastern people are”, said by Mr. Lipokmar Tzusir, Director of North Eastern Zonal (NEZ), Nagaland.

“There has been different interpretation about the North East region and very purpose of this is to bring reality basically to the capital city of a country, he added. (ANI)
