TN polls: Vijayakant to be MDMK’s chief ministerial candidate

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Mar. 23 (ANI): MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday announced that actor-turned politician Vijaykanth will be his party’s chief minister candidate in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

“Vijayakanth is the CM candidate. The government, which is going to be formed, will be a coalition government. This has been announced by captain Vijayakanth,” Vaiko told the media here.

“124 seats have been allotted to DMDK, 110 seats have been allotted PDF… This alliance will be called Captain Vijayakanth alliance and I will be the coordinator,” he added.

In a major development in Tamil Nadu, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on Wednesday entered into an electoral alliance with the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) for the upcoming assembly polls.

The DMDK will contest from 124 seats while the PWF will field their candidates in 110 seats.

The next government of the PWF alliance will be under the leadership of DMDK chief Vijayakanth Vaiko.

Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on May 16 while the results will be announced on May 19.

Tamil Nadu has 234 assembly seats. In the 2011 assembly elections, AIADMK had won 150, DMDK-29, DMK-23, CPM-10, CPI-9 and others-13 seats respectively. (ANI)
